VL started in august 2013 in lagos Nigeria as VL Magazine Nigeria . Thèo olele founded the company with little or no funding or idea of what the magazine would become . In 2015, it was known as VL Magazine Africa.
The magazine rebranded again in 2019 from VL Magazine Africa to just VL Magazine as the name gained prominence outside of Africa .

VL Magazine has been the biggest lifestyle magazine in the whole of Africa and also the highest selling African based magazine in the world selling over 6 thousand copies in 2 weeks . VL is the first African magazine to sign an international distribution deal with a top distribution company called Magzter increasing its reach to over 40 countries worldwide and with over 10 million subscribers.
VL is the most awarded African Magazine ever with over 15 awards both locally and internationally. We have won awards in countries like Nigeria , Namibia, Uganda, Ghana, Serbia , United States, London & Tanzania.
VL is the first and only independent Magazine in Africa to have ever featured a foreign star on the front cover of the magazine .
